New Moon in Pisces: Turning Inward

On February 27th, the Pisces New Moon invites us into an introspective cathartic energy. It is in watery, compassionate Pisces, along with Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, and the North Node. A pileup of energy that is asking us to slow down, reflect, and connect with our inner selves.

This is a significant shift from the last two moon cycles. January 29th’s New Moon in Leo and February 12th’s Full Moon in Aquarius brought masculine, extroverted, action-oriented energy—Leo focused on fiery self-expression, while the Full Moon square Uranus in airy Aquarius emphasized disruptions and sudden shifts in how we think and understand the world.

The water signs were in the background of these charts because they were “averse” to the Sun and Moon, the planets that connect us to our conscious understanding of the world. “Averse” means that the Sun and Moon last month were in signs of the chart where they did not have a direct line of sight to the water signs of Cancer and Pisces, where we had some problematic energy. While we may have felt many emotions, it may not have been easy to relate to this energy consciously—we may have acted out our feelings rather than experiencing them in a cathartic and meaningful way.

Everything shifts with Thursday’s New Moon. The Sun and Moon are in Pisces, a feminine, introspective water sign. Several other planets are with the Sun and Moon in Pisces: Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, and the North Node. Mars is also in watery Cancer. It is time to “feel all the feels;” working through difficult emotions takes center stage.

As always, the lunation will affect you differently depending on the placements in your birth chart. If you have planets at or near 9 degrees of the Mutable Signs (Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, or Sagittarius), the New Moon is more likely to impact you significantly.
