Aries I Solar Eclipse: “Don’t Tell Me Not to Live!”

Barbara Streisand, Funny Girl

On March 29, we have a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries, the final event in a series of eclipses that began in April 2023. The Eclipse takes place in Aries I, the sign's first decan (10 degrees). Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and we just experienced the Vernal Equinox, the beginning of the astrological year.

Aries I carries a complex energy. If you look at it from the ego's perspective, it can be about “winning” and “losing.”

However, viewing it from a holistic, “Self”-oriented perspective, it can also be about standing up for your integrity and taking your place in the world. Think of the opening lines of Barbara Streisand singing “Don’t Rain on my Parade!” from the musical Funny Girl: “Don’t tell me not to live!” “Don’t tell me not to fly!” (Barbara has the rising degree of her Ascendant in Aries I!)

I unpack the meaning of this eclipse in greater detail in my YouTube video (with transcript and illustrations) (link below).

Among other things, I explain how this is the final event in a series of eclipses that began in April 2023, the significance of eclipses as “karmic corrections,” what this eclipse in the Aries-Libra axis might mean for different areas of your life, and some confusing and heavy energy in Pisces that comes with the eclipse.

For an even deeper dive on the meaning of the New Moon eclipse, you can also watch my video on Aries I. It’s part of my new YouTube series on the 36 Decans of the zodiac.

As always, this eclipse will affect some people more than others. It may be more significant if you are a rising Cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) or have the lunar nodes in Aries or Libra.

There’s a link below if you’d like to book a reading to help understand how this eclipse may affect you personally. Birthdays and moments amid a life transition are also excellent times for an Astro checkup.

Transcript (modified)

On March 29th, we have a New Moon Solar Eclipse in the sign of Aries. This is the last in a series of eclipses that began in April 2023. I'm going to unpack all this in the video that's coming up. But first, if you could like and subscribe to my channel, if you enjoy the video, that would be great. It helps folks find me.

So, what does it mean to have an eclipse? When eclipses happen, the Sun or the Moon appears to disappear from the sky. It can be a moment to reboot your life, like a computer. If you've gotten off track with the energy of life, eclipses call us—they’re kind of like karmic corrections that ask us if we've been holding on too tightly in some area of our life where it's time to let go. They might ask us to let go or present new opportunities in our life and encourage us to step into a scary new experience, but that will expand us and give us the chance to do something new.

So, this set of eclipses happens along the Aries-Libra axis. You can figure out where the eclipse is for you in your chart by pulling it up. I'll put a link below where I show you how to pull up your birth chart. Or you can book an astrology reading to help orient you to your chart.

How to Pull Up Your Chart on Astro-Seek

Since we are at the end of a series of eclipses, if you know what houses the eclipses have been happening in, you can start to reflect on the changes in that part of your life. Astrology is great for self-reflection.

If the eclipses have been happening in the fourth house of home and family and the 10th house of career, what you're known for out in the world, then you might have had some corrections or some shifts in your life over the last two years around these topics or these themes. For example, you may have gotten a new job or had to let go of a job but then found a new job that fit you better. Or you might have moved or had some big shift in your home life. Yeah, so that's one example.

So, to break down this particular eclipse a little bit more, it's in the first decan—or 10 degrees—of Aries. When I do these new and full moon video talks, I always talk about the decans and what tarot cards correspond with each new moon or full moon. I do that because images can help open up the meaning of astrology for us.

I just started a decan walk because we had the astrological new year—the vernal equinox, which happens around March 20th. So, many folks will do a decan walk where every 10 days, they'll do a new video exploring the meaning of that 10 degrees of the zodiac. I'm going to put a link to my series below. I just did the video for Aries I, which is where this new moon is. So, check out that video. If you enjoy that, you might consider subscribing to the series to get a new video every 10 days to help you understand the moment's energy and deepen your relationship with your chart.

Okay, so Aries I—what's it about? The images that have to do with Aries I—it’s the Two of Wands in the Rider-Waite tarot deck. Wands are fire energy. Aries is a fire sign. This is a picture of Alexander the Great holding the Earth in his hands, looking out and saying, "What can I conquer next?"

But, as Rachel Pollack points out in her book 78 Degrees of Wisdom, he's got a bit of a bored look on his face. So there can be this quality of loss as well—one perspective or understanding of this first part of Aries, as well as this Two of Wands, is that it's about winners and losers. It can be about conquering and losing, but that's a dualistic notion that comes from the standpoint of the ego. When I say dualistic, I mean it's when we're relating to the world as if it's all about us, as if we can understand everything by using our brain and figuring it out.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and Aries I is the very first decan. So, it's like a child being born, like that new moon energy. But when a child is born, there's also a rush of energy. It can almost be a little bit violent. There's blood and guts, and it's a serious thing to emerge into the world. That's a bit of the energy of the first decan. We can think about it from the perspective of a little bit of fear, and "I need to win, and I need to exist, and I need to sort of push my way into the world." That's kind of from our restricted ego perspective.

But there's another way of looking at Aries I, which is more from the standpoint of the “Self,” from the wholeness of who we are beyond our embodied existence.

Rachel Pollack has a deck called The Shining Tribe Tarot, where she has re-envisioned the Rider-Waite cards. She uses indigenous and natural images. For example, instead of having wands, she uses trees.

The Shining Tribe Tarot

When we relate to this energy of entering the world and asserting ourselves, we can relate to it from the standpoint of not pushing our way in but instead receiving the energy of existence. Right here, we have a woman opening her arms, the Sun across from her. There's this "I am emerging," with her arms wide open, as if to say "I am here!”

Another way to look at the energy when it feels like there might be winners or losers is to step back and say, "Okay, what's a deeper way of relating to the energy of existence?" It may be to be your authentic self, to fully center yourself, to stand in your integrity, and occupy space. That can be the Aries I energy as well. Think about integrity.

The other piece of this New Moon Solar Eclipse chart is that there's some problematic energy in Pisces, the sign next to Aries. When planets are in “aversion” to the New Moon, they do not have a direct line of sight. It can be challenging to have that much energy in aversion to the New Moon because the energy is in the background and may unconsciously affect us.

Saturn, the North Node, Venus, and Neptune are all pretty tight together in Pisces. Pisces is a beautiful sign about compassion and oneness with the universe, and it has an idealistic quality because Jupiter, the god of expansion and optimism, rules it.

But Saturn is there. Saturn is the god of restriction and limitations. When Saturn is in Pisces, it can carry a feeling of restriction around spirituality. It can bring skepticism and difficulty connecting to the depths (though it can also mean that this capacity develops later in life as you mature). There can also be a little fundamentalism from a religious standpoint because Saturn can be a strict guy, right? So, we have Saturn there weighing everything down.

On top of that, Venus is between the North Node—the North Node can bring confusion and illusions, especially if you think about it from the standpoint of Vedic astrology. Rahu can mess with your head a little bit. And then on the other side of Venus, the goddess of love, we've got Neptune. Neptune can be a beautiful planet but is also about dreams, illusions, and fantasy.

So, when we have the goddess of love between the North Node (also known as Rahu) and Neptune, we can have a feeling of wanting to fall in love—it can be very romantic, right? It can feel terrific.

Eventually, however, the scales can fall from our eyes, and the illusions that the North Node and Neptune might have brought could make it painful to let go. All this energy is in the background.

At the same time, this energy doesn’t necessarily have to be about romantic love—it can be around how you relate to the world. Venus is the planet that has to do with how we relate to people in a receptive way. And so, there might be confusion in the background that we're unaware of, and fantasy stuff—perhaps even dark fantasy stuff, if Saturn is there—affecting our mood and how we relate to this energy of needing our integrity.

So, think about that a little bit. Think about how it might relate to the houses in your chart where Aries and Libra fall. Feel free to reach out if you want to connect for a reading. Or, if you’d like to learn the basics of astrology so you can work with your chart, I just uploaded a six-part course, Introduction to Astrology, on my website, including an hour of one-on-one tutoring.
